Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain may be due to different reasons:
- Shoulder tendonitis
- Shoulder arthritis
- Rotator cuff tendon tear.
- Shoulder bursitis
On your first visit, Dr. Vossoughi will perform a thorough examination of your shoulder. You may need to go through diagnostic studies such as x-rays and an MRI. After gathering all the data, Dr. Vossoughi will provide you with various treatment options such as anti-inflammatory oral medications, steroid injections, and or physical therapy to help you with your recovery. Surgical treatment will be advised if indicated. If shoulder pain is ignored, you may develop a frozen shoulder which is more difficult to treat and includes a long recovery.

Rotator Cuff Rupture
What is a rotator cuff tear or rupture?
The rotator cuff is the group of tendons in the shoulder joint providing support and enabling a wide range of motion. Major injury to these tendons may result in a tear or rupture. One of the most common causes of shoulder pain in many middle-aged individuals.
Dr. Vossoughi will examine your shoulder, she may order x-rays or an MRI of your shoulder. In mild cases, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory treatment are effective. In some severe cases, surgical repair is indicated.

Shoulder Arthritis
Shoulder arthritis is among the most prevalent causes of shoulder pain and loss of function. Shoulder arthritis typically presents itself with slowly progressive pain and stiffness. Early on, the pain is usually activity-related, but as the joint degeneration becomes more advanced, people may experience pain at rest or while sleeping. Progressive stiffness eventually limits shoulder function and thereby may cause muscle weakness and atrophy from disuse.

Shoulder Bursitis
An inflammatory condition that may cause swelling or irritation to the bursae. Nearly anyone can develop bursitis, though it is commonly found among patients who overuse an affected joint or suffer physical trauma. Risk factors for bursitis include being overweight, having poor posture, repetitious joint motions, and sitting for long periods of time. Patients are encouraged to avoid repetitious movements and practice healthy posture and warm-ups during physical activity.
